Your MMA training on its own will get do wonders for your fitness, but if you supplement your training with strength and conditioning(S&C), you will reap the benefits in the long term. Do not be afraid to use supplements with your diet. Modern farming and food production means that we do not get all the nutrition that we used to supplementation is a possible answer. Supplements are a huge topic to cover, but a good place to start would be with protein powder, fish oils and a good quality multivitamin. Rest is also very important. You should ideally be getting eight hours of good sleep a night and have rest days as your body needs time to heal from all the punishment you are putting it through.

You may be able to afford to train at the top gym in town with all it's high tech training gear, or you may find yourself in a rundown gym with a leaky roof, but the most important thing is that you are being coached by qualified instructors. A good MMA gym should have instructors that can coach the variety of martial arts that are needed to become a complete mixed martial artist. Beware of martial arts schools that try and jump on the MMA bandwagon, they may be highly ranked in the art they teach but that does not necessarily qualify them to teach MMA.
