Aikido owes its existence to the flexibility of O'sensei

In the classic Chinese, Tao Te Ching says there is something to be written by Lao Tzu around the 6th century B.C., a poem that can tell a lot about the virtues of flexibility.

Men are born soft and supple;

Dead, they are stiff and hard.

The plants are born soft and flexible;

Dead, they are brittle and rigid.

Who is rigid and flexible so it is a disciple of death.

Who is soft and performance is a disciple of life.

The hard and rigid always will be broken.

The soft and flexible will prevail.

In one of my previous articles, I have touched on flexibility theme and how counts it for a lot in especially in the aspects of the execution of aikido techniques. In this article, I have more to discuss on the flexibility, and at this time, I have come to realize that aikido is a lesson in flexibility.

How to develop the flexibility? Having navigated a web site Forum of aikido, some professionals suggested that you one take yoga even Pilates and stretching before training. How are these things translate Aikido? Certain practices of yoga and stretching techniques helped them stretch the shoulders even more, which is beneficial in the correct placement of the hand holding techniques especially nikyo and sankyo. And it also helps in the realization of blocking techniques.

More digging in the physical sense of flexibility, Ueshiba Morihei Osensei had demonstrated its flexibility when he developed aikido: would who would teach the students of martial arts on merge with force or the power of our attacker rather than fight or oppose it.? He is not too radical? No O-Sensei was being flexible in its definition in the martial arts and martial arts was on its way of becoming a sport for completion or the fight rather than a way of life.

It will be better that the previous poem describes O'sensei as a master of martial arts open and flexible. This showed when emphasized harmonization on front of aggression or conflict containment, either physical or verbal. Refusing to skirt around the standard choice of martial arts (win or lose) and not wanting students to leave aggrieved, he said that the first students struggling not simple be so aggressive as our attackers. On the other hand, harnessing the energy of the attacker to reverse its aggression. It is not to attack, but to deflect the attack.

People with the conventional definition of martial arts would eventually hurt the process because they refuse to be open and flexible in their understanding of martial arts, especially in self defense. One must learn from O'sensei: you need to let go of their usual and reactive tendencies to defend yourself. On the other hand, you should be open to feel helpless. For those who are not aware of aikido, this may sound pointless especially if they don't understand the meaning behind the paradox.

Aikido owes its existence to the flexibility of O'sensei. This is not only evident in the practice of aikido in Sydney. It worked even allowed to be flexible for certain professionals and certain events techniques. For this reason there is no such thing as 'styles' but only 'technical'. Also not allowed its students develop their own variations of the techniques? This will see the articles in the future.
